With 2017 fast approaching, it’s time for a quick look back on all the happenings from the past year and a hopeful look ahead at the great things in store for me Aji and the DotAsia team.
2016 started with me, Aji, being appointed a Tx2 ambassador. I was RRAO~ring to go spread the word. Tx2 is a vision by tiger range countries (China, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Nepal, Laos, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Russia) to #doubletigers in the wild by 2022, the next year of the tiger!
Good news kept rolling in April for Tx2 – for the first time wild tiger numbers have risen from 3,200 to just under 3,900 thanks to the transboundary collaborative efforts of the 13 tiger range countries. At the 3rd Asia Ministerial Conference on Tiger Conservation, the New Delhi Resolution on Tiger Conservation was adopted by the tiger range countries. RRAO~ to the progress made and the pledge to do more for the Tx2 goal!
On the community front, we had school visits with over 10,000 kids and visits to Shirase. Check out the kids showing their best tiger style moves! Plus I get to drop tiger facts on their inquiring minds as well! Like did you know that lovely smell of hot buttered popcorn at the movies smells exactly the same as a tiger marking its territory?! RRAO~! The more you know!
Aji sightings at ICANN Marrakech, Helsinki and Hyderabad, APrIGF Taipei and IGF Guadalajara, Domainfest.asia and APRICOT! This was a busy year for Internet governance – the whole community celebrated a few milestones of the IANA Transition. In March when the proposal was sent to the NTIA and in October when the contract with the US government lapsed and the stewardship of the IANA functions transitioned to the global multistakeholder community. That deserves a HUGE RRRAO~ of approval!
Another big milestone was the renewal of the WSIS mandate for another 10 years at the end of 2015 and earlier this month the first of the next 10 Internet Governance Forums was held in Guadalajara, Mexico. 2016 also marked the first year the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda was put into action, with the world working towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
If you have been following my Instagram (if you aren’t, you really should!!) you would have seen my really big appetite. I have been taking bites and sips of all kinds of food and drinks from all my travels. Zipping around with the DotAsia team has turned me into an omnivore!
